Thed Björk talks about his Chinese trip

He’s a three-time Scandinavian Touring Car champion and he’s racing for Polestar Cyan Racing in the FIA World Touring Car Championship piloting a Volvo S60. The swift Swede discusses feeling like a Formula One driver, Chinese fans and long-haul flights.

Björk on… the Shanghai heat

“It can be hot for sure but the last time I was here we had changeable conditions. However, if we have a lot of heat I say it won’t be so difficult because I experienced some really big heat in Vila Real.”

Björk on… feeling like a Formula One driver

“What hit me the first time I came to this track is the big arena. I really wanted to go fast for the fans like they do in Formula One but the corners are a bit slow so it’s not so easy. But the atmosphere is really good.”

Björk on… Chinese fans

“They are really interested in the racing and I hope they enjoy watching the Volvo S60 Polestar TC1. China is obviously a very important race for us because, as a company with both Swedish and Chinese heritage, we hope we make a good result. That would certainly be nice as we have lots of guests from Volvo coming to the race.”

Björk on… local cuisine

“I like it very much. In fact, the only problems I had when I was in China the last time was the traffic but of course you get traffic in such a big city like Shanghai. But it’s quite strange that we don’t drive ourselves and go round in buses.”

Björk on… long-haul flying

“I try to sleep so I arrive with no jetlag. This is my secret but with a baby boy at home I know I will get some sleep because he won’t be on the plane!”
